Rank 1: The Mighty Nein

Absolutely deserved and in our view unparalleled: The Mighty Nein in first place. The Mighty Nein are the second campaign of Critical Role and the first one that was fully streamed. Starting again is the familiar cast with Matt Mercer as Dungeon Master and Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brian, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham.
If Vox Machina is an epic hero party, the Mighty Nein are a found family of misfits. This makes them even more grounded and relatable. Their adventures are incredibly character-driven: Friends are rescued, family members are sought, or old friends become enemies with world domination ambitions.
This colorful group of outsiders takes first place in our campaign ranking for exactly that reason. But also because the series is completely available in very good production quality on YouTube. Additionally, little to no prior knowledge is required. The Mighty Nein are thus the perfect campaign to start with Critical Role.

After the rather rigid heroic archetype fitting Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein were exactly what I needed to stay engaged with Critical Role. I caught up on the series almost every Friday after the live broadcast via Twitch and stayed engaged until the end. I still remember the dreadful morning of episode 26. At 7:30 a.m. the alarm went off for work; it was already going off on Twitter – it was still being played. And it wasn’t good. Oh no…
The Mighty Nein has the best characters, the most exciting story arcs, and heart-wrenching fates. And when the animated series starts, they can rip my heart out again. I’m looking forward to it.

The Mighty Nein are my absolute favorite and that has a whole bunch of reasons. On the one hand, I find the characters very individual with their own, detailed backgrounds, all of which have something mythical about them.
Paired with the absolute chaos that the group embodies and the sharp wit they bring results in an even livelier and more epic story than with Vox Machina, which for me makes the perfect mix. Not least, the characters feel bolder and more exotic, which makes the mix even wilder, and I personally really enjoy that.

The Mighty Nein were the ones who brought me into the fandom of Critical Role. I stumbled across fan art of the characters and quickly fell in love with their personalities and subsequently the story of the campaign.
Even though I might find them the best for this reason, it’s just my favorite campaign!
This is our ranking of the currently completed campaigns of Critical Role. Feel free to write to us in the comments if you agree with our view. However, if you say now that you are not really looking forward to watching over 100 episodes of a series, that is understandable. Accordingly, we can, as mentioned at the beginning, recommend the freshly started Campaign 4. What exactly is that?
