2. The first Lich and the Necromancer who brought the undead into the world
Nagash was one of the most powerful wizards in the history of Warhammer and the first known necromancer, later turning into a Lich. He learned to harness the winds of magic from captured Dark Elves by torturing his victims and using that power as a foundation.
After a war intended to end his reign of terror over the kingdom of Khemri, Nagash nearly died, only to accidentally be transformed into a Lich by the Warpstone seized by the Skaven. Over several years, Nagash then built a new realm and subdued several wild tribes – and made them the first ghouls.
However, contact with Warpstone transformed Nagash until he ended up barely human, but rather a large, flaming skeleton. After a long war against his old kingdom, Nagash ultimately killed almost all living inhabitants with the help of a poisoned river.
Alcadizaar, the king, remained as the last living being, with whom Nagash performed a special ritual that wiped out all life over a hundred miles and subsequently brought it back in the state of the undead under his control.
Nagash subsequently died several times and was brought back; however, his actions left the world of Warhammer with undead as a lasting plague, dark necromancers, and even the first vampires.
