The players of Helldivers 2 managed to complete an order in record time, but they cheated. Now the goldfish have to pay for it.
What was the mission about? Helldivers 2 sent you on a general order to 3 different planets to collect huge amounts of samples. The goal was to collect a total of 70 million samples, which seemed impossible at first.
However, after just a few hours, a large portion of the samples was collected, and it quickly became apparent that something wasn’t right. In the end, the general order was completed unrealistically fast, and many players suspected cheaters were at work.

What’s up with the goldfish? Arrowhead could not stop the cheaters from completing the order at lightning speed. Consequently, the developers included a message in the game stating that they executed the imaginary “pet fish” of the Divers:
The high command of Über-Earth discovered a large quantity of fake samples during a delivery of the last general order. As usual, all Helldivers who fulfilled their duties honorably were awarded medals, and those who submitted fake samples had their pet fish executed.

Additionally, “the high command” added that the fight against “the darkness” had suffered due to the fake samples: “Laboratories across the space of Über-Earth are trying to filter out the false samples, but the expected scientific progress in the fight against the spread of darkness has significantly declined.”
What do the players say about it? On Reddit, users are excited about how Arrowhead manages to incorporate such incidents into the world of Helldivers and mourn the executed fish.
