In Helldivers 2, the patch makes completely different weapons strong now. With one of them, you can even defeat assaulters and other armored enemies all by yourself and very easily.
Which weapon is it about? The Laser Cannon was virtually useless before the patch. Compared to other weapons, it dealt far too little damage, and at the same time, you were very slow when carrying it on your shoulders. With the patch from yesterday, the Laser Cannon received several buffs.
The weapon is now particularly suitable for defeating armored enemies, as the community quickly noticed.
Here you can watch the trailer for Helldivers 2, where the mechs were also announced.
Defeating Assaulter Bugs is now easy
How do you best defeat the Assaulter Bugs now? With the Laser Cannon, this is no longer a problem, even for solo players. When the assaulter makes its attack, you dodge it and concentrate your fire with the weapon on one leg of the bug.
The bug is somewhat weakened after its storm attack and thus vulnerable to your attacks. It is important that you aim at the legs of the assaulter, as that is the best point to inflict damage with the weapon. Aiming at the bug’s rear does less damage.
With the buffs the weapon has received, the bug should already be destroyed before it has you back in its sights.
Here you can see a YouTube video that demonstrates it for you.
Why is the weapon good now? With the new buff of the Laser Cannon, several aspects of the weapon have been strengthened, making it effective against armored opponents.
The LAS-98 Laser Cannon, as it is officially called, now deals more damage against the resilient body parts of enemies, has increased armor penetration, and improved ergonomics. All three aspects ensure that armored enemies quickly go down.
What do the players think about it? Players are divided on what to make of the weapon. On Reddit, there was also a post about the weapon’s ability to destroy armored enemies. There was a lot of surprise, as some players tried the weapon right away but did not yet have the new patch, which came for the PS5 a bit later.
Asleep_Assumption646 writes on Reddit: “Probably a bait video. I always liked this weapon, but it was useless against armored enemies. I tried it earlier, it doesn’t kill as fast as shown here.”
Siilk writes on Reddit: “Tried it yesterday against an assaulter. Could not get penetration from the front, but hitting the rear after dodging its attack was quite effective, […]”
