The community of Helldivers 2 argued with the developers of the shooter because some nerfs were not well received. Now the studio’s employees receive support from some fans.
Why are the employees threatened with “punishment”?
- Helldivers 2 nerfed the best weapons in the game with a patch on Wednesday, March 6, the best weapons of the game.
- Many players voiced sharp criticism of the nerfs, with some even forgetting their manners and becoming disrespectful.
- Some employees of the developer studio Arrowhead snapped at the peak of criticism and responded with snappy comments. One developer wrote on Reddit that the criticism was a “skill issue”, and a Discord moderator joked about the players’ “whining” (via Reddit).
- The developers’ comments, in turn, caused renewed upset among the players, some of whom even demanded the dismissal of individual employees (via old.reddit).
Papa-Pilestedt scolds his protégés
What kind of punishment is threatened? Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of Arrowhead, intervened in the discussions on Reddit and explained that a response like “git good” does not follow the studio’s guidelines for proper communication, is emotional, and that the criticism of the patch was seen as a personal attack.
In another comment on Reddit, Pilestedt also explained that the studio will teach its developers how to represent the company correctly.
By the way, shortly after the patch, the first content update for Helldivers 2 was announced; here you can see the trailer:
“You are the worst kind of customers”
What kind of support has there been now? On Reddit, the user “MrWaterplant” has now spoken out against the criticism of the developers and the demand for dismissals. The player clearly stands up for the studio’s employees and receives support in the form of over 26,000 upvotes.
MrWaterplant clearly states in his post: “No, developers should not lose their jobs just because they rightly get upset when they are harassed around the clock by adults acting like children about video games.”
During his 200-word text, he explained that the complaining players are the worst kind of customers:
You (those of you who scream at the developers, say it is unacceptable that people are angry at you, and demand they lose their jobs) are the worst kind of person and customer. I pray for the members of the community team, the developers, and all employees who have had to deal with your whining and harassment throughout this game’s lifecycle and will continue to do so.

In the comments under MrWaterplant’s post, various factions of the community are also represented again. Some agree that the player is right when he says the community has gone too far. Others say the developers have behaved wrongly.
Some commentators also conclude that this whole topic is typical for Reddit, and some users are annoyed by both sides. The players just want to discover posts about the game and not many long threads where either the developers or the community is being complained about.
Perhaps the point of “writing long, complaining threads on Reddit” is also interesting for our list of 5 ways to make yourself really unpopular among your fellow players in Helldivers 2.
