For a mod to Dota 2, you would expect that mainly Dota players would be excited about it. But currently, more and more Hearthstone streamers are playing Auto Chess. The reason for this is the fast updates that are painfully missed in the card game.
Which streamers play Dota 2 Auto Chess? Looking at the list of top English Hearthstone streamers of the last 365 days, measured by watch time, you will come across names like:
- DisguisedToast
- Dog
- Asmodai
- Amaz
- Savjz
- and Kolento
All six streamers currently play Auto Chess as a side activity or even exclusively. But other well-known Hearthstone names like Hafu, Trump, or Firebat have also recently dabbled with the mod.

This connects Hearthstone and Auto Chess
The two games Hearthstone and Auto Chess are very different in structure. However, they share the strategic approach and a well-functioning ranking system. This probably also adds to the appeal for many Hearthstone streamers.
Auto Chess comparable to Arena: In each round, you are presented with figures in Auto Chess from which you can choose.
Similar to the Arena in Hearthstone, you have to make the best out of what you are randomly offered.
Positioning plays a big role: In Hearthstone, good players pay attention to how they play their creatures. Against certain classes, specific positioning is useful to weaken the mage’s meteor, for example.
Positioning plays an even greater role in Auto Chess. Since the figures attack their opponents or even jump to the other side of the board, they must be positioned accordingly.

What Makes Auto Chess Better Than Hearthstone
Problems with Hearthstone: Many of the initially mentioned streamers have been dissatisfied with Hearthstone recently. The reason for this is a relatively rigid meta and few innovations. Even Blizzard has noticed that their card game is currently struggling with problems.
For many streamers, a new game comes in handy, especially if it addresses issues that Blizzard is responding to too slowly.
Regular updates: Since the release on January 4, there have already been over 60 updates. Although many of them were mainly bug fixes, several useful features were also added.
Useful changes include, for example, improved display options, better statistics for the game figures, and even some new figures.
Additionally, many languages are now supported, including German, French, and Russian.

Good balance and quick adjustments: Many streamers praise the balance in Auto Chess. Regularly, smaller adjustments are made there.
Amaz particularly emphasized in a livestream that, unlike Blizzard, all weak figures receive regular buffs to be useful.
According to Amaz, Blizzard nerfs strong cards far too often instead of improving weak ones.
