Blizzard’s online card game Hearthstone boasts new player numbers.
If a colleague greets you in the morning with jumbled babble and refuses to engage in small talk, stating that the old gods must be honored, then a new Hearthstone expansion is out.
Blizzard is using this opportunity to announce new player numbers. They now have 50 million registered users. The last figure they shared was 40 million. That was in November during Blizzcon. In half a year, they added 10 million players.
Not bad for a project that started as an exercise and was planned to be “extra small.” They wanted to see if they could still do something “small” after WoW and the other giant franchises. They can.
The 50 million refer to Mac, PC, iOS, and Android. This is not about “active players,” but about registered ones.
