Hearthstone is changing the mechanics of card packs. Duplicate Legendaries will soon be a thing of the past.
Who doesn’t know this? You hover over a card from a fresh Hearthstone pack and see the orange glow – a Legendary! The excitement builds, and as the card slowly turns over, it’s… just the third copy of Nat Pagle. All the joy turns into frustration because you’ve only gotten a medium amount of Arcane Dust.
But that will change in the future! As Ben Brode, the Game Director of Hearthstone, announced in a video on YouTube, Blizzard has plans for changes to Hearthstone’s card packs. Brode believes it is especially important that opening card packs remains an exciting and interesting mechanic.
According to this, with the release of the next expansion, it will no longer be possible to obtain duplicate legendary cards. So if you already own an “Archmage Antonidas”, you will definitely not receive a second one from any future packs. Instead, you will be guaranteed to receive a legendary card that is not yet in your collection!
Another change ensures that no card can appear more than twice in a single pack. In the past, there have always been frustrated players who received the same card three or even four times within the same pack. In the future, each pack can contain as many cards of the same type as can be played in a deck – so two.
Guaranteed Legendaries at the Start of an Expansion
Finally, it is guaranteed that within the first 10 card packs of the new expansion, a legendary card will be included! This is to ensure that all players have a good start to the new expansion and already own a legendary card around which they can build a deck.
What do you think of these planned changes? Does it sound good and should it bring more fun back to the world of Hearthstone? Or do you smell a catch?
Alexstrasza and the Goblin Auctioneer may soon disappear from the game!
