How is Hearthstone doing right now? If we believe the concerns of the fans, something bad is on the horizon for Blizzard’s card game.
In a few days, a new expansion will be released for Hearthstone. With “Danger in Paradise”, there will be over 100 new cards, new mechanics and keywords, and all the elements that make a Hearthstone expansion.
But not everything.
Because one feature is missing for the first time with “Danger in Paradise”. The community sees this as a major problem that raises concerns.
We’ve presented the best MMORPGs of all time here.
What is the problem? The next expansion is the first in Hearthstone’s history that will not feature a new game board. Although game boards are completely irrelevant to gameplay, they give an expansion a special flair. There are clickable things, everything visually fits with the new cards, and the new environment comes with its own music that captures the feel of the expansion.
However, Danger in Paradise lacks exactly that – because there is no new game board. And this has fans worried.
What are the fans’ concerns? Even though some believe that a new game board – or the absence of one – is likely the least of Hearthstone’s problems, many see it differently. For numerous fans, this is a sign that Blizzard’s focus might be shifting, and that they are slowly starting to work less passionately on Hearthstone.
In the Hearthstone subreddit, many fans are reacting with concern:
- “This feels like the beginning of the end and stronger than anything else they’ve ever done.” – The_Werodile
- “I’m honestly shocked. This seems like such a small thing, but it is so significant. It’s a sign of what’s to come and how much effort they are putting into the game. It looks like they have their priorities wrong.” – daddyvow
- “That’s such a wild decision for the 10th anniversary of the game.” – makman44
A new game board is just a detail, but many are reminded of Heroes of the Storm, which also gradually received fewer and fewer new cosmetic contents (like special mounts) before the game was put into maintenance mode and ultimately shut down completely.
Blizzard reacts – exactly the wrong way: The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that Blizzard has not provided a proper statement. It is stated on X that they have heard the criticism and concerns of the players and will respond – but only in a week. The fact that it takes them a week to come up with a statement on such a simple question, and that a developer cannot simply say what is happening, only fuels the concerns of many fans:
So far, the conclusions and concerns of the community are primarily one thing: justified worries. Whether the reasons for this are actually valid remains to be seen in a few days when Blizzard speaks in the announced statement about the current state of the game and plans for the future.
Hearthstone has drawn attention in recent times with rather problematic news. For instance, a change in the XP system for quests caused many players to rise up in protest.
