A new card is causing loud outrage among arena fans of Hearthstone . The portal: Firelands is said to ruin the arena, according to fans.
Did mages need even more power?
When new cards for Hearthstone are announced, most players first think: How can this card be used in ranked play? Does the card fit into existing decks, or can one even create completely new decks with this card? A significantly smaller percentage of players first thinks about the impact a specific card will have on the arena. But that is precisely where fans are currently up in arms, because one of the new mage spells threatens to “completely ruin” the arena.
We are talking about the mage spell “Portal: Firelands”. For 7 mana, the mage deals 5 damage to a target and simultaneously summons a random minion costing 5.
The card itself is not the problem, but its rarity. It is classified as a “common” card.
This means that mages will see it quite often in the arena, and consequently, there will likely be several of these cards in every arena deck.
Mages will soon dominate the arena – more than ever before
Currently, the mage is already sharing the highest win rate in the arena with the rogue, mainly due to the strong “removal” abilities that allow one to efficiently eliminate expensive enemy minions. Many of these powerful abilities are classified as “common”, which is why they often appear in the arena deck-building phase. This is combined with the fact that mages and rogues have many minions with which one can play “on curve”: That is, a fitting sequence of mana costs (1 > 2 > 3 > …).
Other classes, such as the priest, are significantly weaker in this regard. Many would have cheered if the priest had received such a card. Thus, fans see the problem that soon only mages will be played in the arena – even more than already is the case.
The players’ demand is clear: “Portal: Firelands” should be at least “rare” so that the impact in the arena is not so severe.
