At the launch of “Whispers of the Old Gods”, all players of Hearthstone receive 13 free packs. Additionally, many new cards were introduced.
Legendary Cards in Abundance
In the livestream with the developer Ben Brode, many of the missing cards from “Whispers of the Old Gods” were introduced today. Almost 40 new cards were presented in some showmatches, which already convey the gameplay feel of the expansion very well, and this can be summarized in one word: Insane.
Mages get the legendary minion Anomalus. An 8/6 minion for 8 mana, with the devastating deathrattle: Deal 8 damage to all other minions. This is probably one of the most thorough board clears that exist in the game – on both sides.
Rogues wait for the epic minion Blade of C’Thun, which has weak stats of 4/4 for 9 mana. However, its battlecry makes it one of the most valuable cards of all: Destroy a minion. The attack and health of the destroyed minion are added to C’Thun (wherever he is).
Shamans await the pretty cool spell Evolve. For just 1 mana, all of the shaman’s minions are upgraded and transformed into random minions that cost 1 more mana than their original form.
Only “ordinary” but still immensely powerful is also the Flamewreathed Faceless for Shamans. For 4 mana it has massive stats of 7/7, but it also introduces 2 overload. Nevertheless, it could be difficult to deal with such a powerful minion on turn 4 or 5.
Warriors get the legendary minion Malkorok. With a mana cost of 7 and stats of 6/5, he may seem weak, but his battlecry could make him really dangerous, as the warrior equips a random weapon. From a fiery battle axe to a doom hammer, anything could be included.
Priests, who are devoted to the old god C’Thun, can soon expect even stronger healing. The Twilight Darkmender has solid stats of 6/5 for 5 mana, but her battlecry makes her a fantastic healer. If your C’Thun has at least 10 attack (no matter where he is), she restores 10 health to the priest.
Even Druids get a legendary minion, Fandral Staghelm awakens from the nightmare and joins the game. For 4 mana he has solid stats of 3/5, but it is his card effect that makes him really powerful. All druid cards that allow you to “Choose One” execute both effects as long as he is in play. An Ancient of Lore could thus heal and draw cards simultaneously, while a Cenarius buffs all minions and still summons Treants. The combo possibilities are virtually endless.
13 Free Packs for Everyone!
It was previously mentioned that with “Whispers of the Old Gods” there will be 3 free card packs from the new expansion.
Now they have gone a step further. As soon as the expansion goes live, all players will receive a quest where they must win 2 games in “Standard” mode. Those who succeed will get 5 more packs! After that, there will be a follow-up quest in which 7 games must be won to be rewarded again with 5 packs.
In summary, every player receives, with very little effort, 13 free card packs from the expansion.
