The healers in World of Warcraft are frustrated. Because their teammates apparently do not understand the basic mechanics of the game.
The role of the healer is quite important in World of Warcraft. In normal or heroic dungeons, the healer has relatively little to do, but as soon as it comes to mythical or “Mythic+” dungeons, that changes rapidly. But not only does the requirement for healing increase, but in many cases so does the frustration. Because many healers report: The other players are shirking every responsibility.
What is the current problem? The new affixes, which thematically revolve around the Harbinger Xal’atath, have not yet fully arrived for many heroes. Many do not know how to deal with the affixes and therefore do not play them correctly. There is a saying among healers: “Every affix is a healer affix” – following the thought that in the end, it will be the healers who have to deal with it, no matter what happens. Or in other words: If the rest does not care about the affixes, then the healers have to deal with it.
What is the current affix? In the current WoW week, the affix is “Xal’atath’s Bargain: Devour”. At regular intervals, Xal’atath appears and applies a portal to all characters.
The portal can be removed in two ways:
- The character is healed for a large percentage of their health points and the “heal absorb” is completely lifted.
- Any kind of dispel is used. Whether curse, magic, disease, or poison dispel, immunity also works. Everything removes the effect.
The basic idea is: If every class uses its ability to remove the debuff, then everything is fine. Then the whole group benefits from a strong buff.
If the group does not do this, then the healer faces a problem. Because they can only dispel a maximum of 2 characters, the rest must be provided with massive healing to remove the heal absorb before the debuff expires. If that happens, then all enemies receive a strong buff and are healed.
Healers usually have to use all their strong abilities if they want to remove the debuff everywhere with healing. Those are cooldowns that will be missing in the next boss fight.
“Stop being so lazy” is what healers hear
If you look around in the World of Warcraft subreddit, many healers are currently stuck with groups that do not care at all about the affixes and the resulting difficulty. There are numerous posts about how little effort other players are putting in to play the affix correctly.
In the Reddit post “Stop being lazy”, Willing_Calender_858 writes:
I decided to see what all the healers are currently complaining about in M+. I usually play Brewmaster monk, so I knew how it works, but I have never healed. I leveled my Holy Paladin to item level 604 and told myself: “Okay. Let’s give it a try.” I entered a Kara+2 with a protection warrior as tank, 2 mages (with dispel) and a shaman (with totem and cleansing). Not a single person removed their debuff. No totems. No dispels. Only I, who dispelled myself and the tank. When I addressed the mage about it, he said: “Stop being lazy.” I left. People… it’s really bad out there.
So if you want your healers not to be frustrated and give up: At least try to understand the current affixes. This is a group task, and if everyone contributes their part, the dungeon will be far less frustrating for everyone involved.
Recently, Blizzard has slightly nerfed the mythic dungeons.
