Pete leaves his Dodge Charger in the garage for 30 years. A team of mechanics restores his car so he can drive it again. For the now 96-year-old, this is a time travel.
For three decades, 96-year-old Pete left his 1968 Dodge Charger in the garage because his wife complained about the roar of the engine (in the YouTube video at 2:12). Today, just a few years before his hundredth birthday, he has decided to revive his passion.
The YouTube channel Ammo NYC has taken on his dusty and rusty car and restored it so that the 96-year-old can drive it again – albeit only as a passenger. He is now too old to drive himself. You can find the entire video on YouTube.
Car stood for decades in the garage, which did not completely protect it from wear and tear
Many problems: At the beginning, the team led by professional Larry Kosilla faced many issues. After all, the car had been sitting unused in the garage for 30 years. The vehicle was protected from sun and rain by the garage, but not from dust and rust.
Despite the long period of inactivity, the tires still held air, and the interior was still in good condition thanks to careful maintenance: the black leather inside the vehicle was neither torn nor heavily worn, although mold and traces of mice were found.
The restoration turned out to be technically complex: cables, spark plugs, and cylinders had to be checked and replaced, brake lines and the master brake cylinder were renewed. The engine compression was initially too low but was fixed by the technician team.
After five weeks, Pete was able to view the restored vehicle. He is visibly proud to see the car back in this condition, even though he can no longer drive due to his age. But you can see his smile in the video as he sits in his car and hears the engine sounds again.

What kind of vehicle is this? The Dodge Charger from the 1960s is among the most famous vehicles when it comes to so-called Muscle Cars.
- The 1968 Dodge Charger belongs to the second generation (1968–1970) and is considered the most iconic model of the series.
- In 1968, around 96,100 Chargers were sold, which was an enormous success for the manufacturer. No other Charger model has ever reached the sales figures again.
- Today, the 1968 model is considered one of the most sought-after collectibles among classic car enthusiasts and is regarded as an icon of the so-called Muscle Car era.
For a well-preserved vehicle from this era, one may have to pay amounts in the millions. For a 1968 Dodge Charger, the prices on the used market range between 70,000 and 100,000 euros (via mobile.de). Depending on the condition, the price can be even higher.
Another car owner also left his car in a garage for years. But for him, it wasn’t his wife; he simply forgot where he parked his car in Munich. You can find out more about it on MeinMMO: A $700,000 Ferrari stood in a Munich garage for 10 years: its owner forgot where he had parked it
