Position 2: Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange was one of the most famous and feared Death Eaters for a reason. She stood out especially for her fanatical loyalty to Voldemort and her love for cruelty.
To find her master again, she tortured Alice and Frank Longbottom, along with three other Death Eaters, until they lost their sanity.
Also, as an opponent in combat, she seemed unstoppable. She defeated Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and her cousin Sirius Black, whom she cold-bloodedly killed. She also effortlessly cleared three Grippers out of the way, including the werewolf Fenrir Greyback, and took on Hermione, Ginny, and Luna simultaneously in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Ultimately, she was defeated by Molly Weasley – an opponent she likely underestimated completely.
Position 1: Severus Snape
Even as a student, Severus Snape was a gifted wizard who not only had a knack for potions but also developed his own spells. He was the Potions Master and later, under Voldemort’s reign, even the headmaster.
However, he proved his true strength when he secretly turned against Voldemort after Lily’s death and began spying for Dumbledore. Except for Bellatrix, no one ever doubted Snape’s loyalty. And even Voldemort was deceived.
The reason for this was primarily Snape’s extraordinary talent in Occlumency, through which he was able to hide his thoughts from Voldemort.
In a duel, he was a dangerous opponent. In the final part, he was able to take on McGonagall, even though we never see his full potential in combat. As a double agent, he had no interest in defeating his supposed opponents or causing them harm.
Together with the impressive fact that he managed to deceive Voldemort for years regarding the non-existent nose, Snape earns the top spot in this ranking.
Do you agree with the ranking? Who would you perhaps rank differently? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
Stephen King is also enthusiastic about the villains in Harry Potter. One character is even, for him, the best villain in a long time. But it’s not about Voldemort: This character from Harry Potter is, according to Stephen King, the best villain in a long time – and it is not “you-know-who”
