Quidditch is the most popular wizarding sport in the world of Harry Potter. Even Harry himself is a gifted player. But can he make it into the top 3 of our ranking of the ultimate best Quidditch players?
In the wizarding sport of Quidditch, two teams compete to score the most points. There are five balls, six goals, and seven players per team who have different roles:
- Chaser (three each): They try to throw the “Quaffle” through an opponent’s goal hoop, which scores 10 points.
- Keeper (one each): They try to prevent the opponents from scoring goals.
- Beaters (two each): They try to hit the “Bludgers” at opposing players.
- Seeker (one each): They try to catch the “Golden Snitch”, which brings 150 points and ends the game.
What was the ranking based on? For our list of the best Quidditch players from Harry Potter, we considered all characters that appear in any form in the films or books.
Characters who are only briefly mentioned by name do not count.
In the new game “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions”, you can prove yourself in the magical sport:
Place 10: Fred and George Weasley
- Position: Beater
- Title: “human Bludger” (by Harry Potter); “invincible Beaters” (by Oliver Wood)
Fred and George are not only excellent at inventing joke products. They are also outstanding Quidditch players.
Throughout their school years, they made a name for themselves as Beaters.
Even though they sometimes struggle with their outdated broomsticks and their temper, the twins work perfectly together and have their team’s back.
Place 9: Cedric Diggory
- Position: Seeker
- Title: Captain
Cedric Diggory is mainly known for his participation in the Triwizard Tournament. Alongside Harry, he is the school champion of Hogwarts.
He shares his talent for flying with Harry. He was the Seeker and Quidditch Captain of Hufflepuff.
When Fred and George mock Hufflepuff’s team, Oliver Wood rightly points out: “Diggory has put together a strong team; he is an excellent Seeker!”.
Indeed, Cedric manages to catch the Snitch and bring victory to Hufflepuff. Perhaps only because Harry was disqualified due to the Dementors.
Place 8: James Potter
- Position: Chaser (books)/ Seeker (movies)
- Title: “Quidditch hero” (by Snape)
We don’t know much about Harry’s father James’ Quidditch skills. However, they seem to have been quite impressive.
For example, Snape derisively refers to James as a “great Quidditch hero”. Sirius praises Harry’s Quidditch skills by comparing them to James’s.
Additionally, Harry learns that his father enjoyed playing with a Golden Snitch, allowing it to fly away and then skillfully catching it again.
After his marriage to Lily and the birth of his son, however, he no longer pursued the sport, or else he might have become a well-known Quidditch player.
