“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” starts with a brief scene from the previous part. However, that’s hardly worth mentioning and is more of a flashback, which is why we want to focus on the next scene.
In a cool shot, we fly from the perspective of a Death Eater through London and into Diagon Alley. It quickly becomes clear: Voldemort and his followers will no longer hide. They not only create chaos and destruction in Diagon Alley but even destroy a bridge in front of numerous Muggles.
The scene is especially significant because Voldemort openly attacks Muggles for the first time during the film series, effectively declaring war on the wizarding community. This perfectly sets the tone for the upcoming film, which is now noticeably darker and more mature than all previous installments.
Even though we are mainly focusing on the films here, I want to award a bonus point for the book. In it, the first chapter is told from the perspective of the British Prime Minister, a Muggle. We learn that he was informed about the existence of the magical world upon taking office. He now receives a visit from Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge, who briefs him on the current situation. The somewhat bewildered reactions of the Muggle prime minister to the strange magical world are simply delightful. Additionally, it is quite interesting to experience Harry Potter from a Muggle’s perspective.
