The PS4 version of the battle royale shooter H1Z1 has exited the open beta phase and is getting a battle pass model. Here are all the details about the release of the free-to-play shooter. Although the release of H1Z1 is a bit rocky with a server down on PS4.
What is H1Z1? H1Z1 is a battle royale shooter that primarily reminds of the big competitor PUBG on PS4.
As in other battle royale games, the play area in H1Z1 narrows over time. Up to 100 players compete as solo fighters or in groups on a large map, fighting until only one player/group remains alive.
Beta phase over: The open beta of H1Z1 on PS4 has been running for several months. Now the developer studio Daybreak announces the official release. H1Z1 is officially out of beta and thus a full-fledged free-to-play title. The servers went online on August 7th.
There won’t be any changes to the gameplay; a battle pass and various starter bundles will be unlocked at launch.

All about the new battle pass
What is the battle pass? The battle pass is a type of season pass that unlocks various content. However, players must complete specific tasks to do so.
Three different battle passes: The battle pass will have three different versions:
- A battle pass for everyone (free),
- A premium pass (costs €5),
- which will be free for plus members.
The advantages of the premium pass are that players can buy certain rewards with crowns that other players can only obtain by completing tasks.
Without crowns, players must earn specific medals to fulfill these requirements. 10 of these medals will grant you a promotion to the next rank of the battle pass.
How do PS4 players earn medals? You earn medals through
- completing daily challenges,
- and leveling up your season level. This increases automatically as you play and earn EXP.

What happens to the skulls you earned in beta?
A new currency: All skulls you earned in beta will be converted into a new currency. Skulls will become credits. 50 skulls equal one credit.
Earn medals: The daily challenges that previously rewarded you with skulls will now instead provide medals that you can use to level up your battle pass. The exchange option will be available from the release.
The new credits
Credits are the new currency introduced in the PS4 version of H1Z1. With these, you can purchase items like skins and outfits. Certain items will be available in a store whose offerings change regularly.
How do I earn credits? Initially, primarily through double skins and items you should sell. As you reach higher battle pass levels, you will earn more credits.
During the open beta, numerous players apparently took a look at H1Z1. The online shooter was the most downloaded F2P title on PS4 in June. According to developer Daybreak, over 10 million players registered in the beta.
10 million new players in our first month in open beta is an incredible milestone, and our entire development team has worked tirelessly to build on that early success.
Minor issues at H1Z1’s release with the server down on PS4
When does H1Z1 launch on PS4? The launch was originally announced for 19:00. However, the release has been slightly delayed. There have repeatedly been problems and patches. Currently, the H1Z1 PS4 servers are still down, but Daybreak is on it. It should start soon.
We are curious to see how H1Z1 will perform in the future. During the open beta, there were already some ups and downs.
