The endgame of Guild Wars 2 involved many players hoping that the next mob would drop their precursor. However, this will soon be history, as ArenaNet announces. With Heart of Thorns, you will get the weapon that leads to the Legendary in a completely new way.
Gain Experience for the Mastery Path
With the experience you gain at level 80, you can unlock the way to a precursor in the new Mastery Path. Once you have unlocked Rank 1, you choose one of the different weapons and start your journey. In a blog post, ArenaNet shows how this can look using the beer quests: You must complete various tasks and ultimately receive the precursor for the Legendary.
Upgrading the Precursor
But that’s not all. The next focus is then on converting the precursor to Legendary. Again, you need to complete tasks and prove your crafting skills. This way, you upgrade your precursor by one level. It goes even further with Rank 3. Here, the same game: complete tasks and upgrade the weapon. By the way, each weapon has its own story, making it worthwhile to unlock other precursors. The weapon differs in appearance from Rank 1-3.
Obtaining Materials in a New Way
To craft the Rank 3 precursor into the Legendary, you still need a significant amount of materials, such as Ancient Bones or Powerful Poison Sacs. In Heart of Thorns, you obtain these materials through the new map bonuses. If you complete events, mini-dungeons, or jumping puzzles on a map, you receive some crafting materials. Which ones? It varies, as the rewards are intended to rotate. Mindless farming of specific monsters may be a thing of the past.
