Today, August 20, 2024, the new expansion Janthir Wilds for Guild Wars 2 is being released. Just in time for the launch, you can grab new Twitch Drops. In addition, a new season begins in the Sorcerer’s Vault.
Update from August 20, 2024 – 6:00 PM: The Janthir Wilds expansion for Guild Wars 2 is live. Enjoy the new content. If you wish, you can get into the right mood for the trip into the wild with the new launch trailer from ArenaNet. However, a note that the developers have also released a roadmap for upcoming updates (via guildwars2.com).
So, contrary to the initial announcement, there will not be three fresh regions, but four. The official announcement states:
“Instead of releasing the third map in two parts, we will now release a standalone map in each of the second and third quarterly releases, which is approximately the size of the Doric Lake map.”

What do I need to know about the launch of Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds?
- The new expansion is released today, August 20, 2024. The new content is expected to be playable from 6:00 PM.
- From August 20, 2024 (from 6 PM) to August 26, 2024 (at 08:59 AM), you can watch your favorite streamers of Guild Wars 2 and grab some great rewards – more on that shortly.
- On August 20, 2024, the new season of the Sorcerer will also start. Included: fresh rewards as well as an assignment license for Janthir Wilds.

Twitch Drops and new season
What Twitch Drops are available? If you watch the GW2 streamers for up to ten hours, you can secure a total of five in-game goodies:
- Fluffy Quaggan Hat Skin – watch for 2 hours
- “Green Quaggan” Backpack Cover – watch for 4 hours
- Mini-Pet Bundle – watch for 6 hours
- Emote Tome “/Coffee Sip” – watch for 8 hours
- Cosmetic Pirate Bundle – watch for 10 hours
What does the new season offer? The new adventures in Janthir Wilds will be accompanied by the new license for the “Meteor Shower” task. Those who complete the associated goals will receive an ascended meteor shower spear and the meteor bearer gloves. When you equip both items at the same time, the spear gains a cool overheated effect.
In addition, you can expect rewards in the Sorcerer’s Vault such as the Onyx-Spider Weapon Collection, as well as helmet, shoulders, and gloves from the macabre Decay Stalker Armor set! You will also receive a set 5 of the legendary starter kit with two new and two reissued weapon kits.
What are the main new features of Janthir Wilds? The new expansion takes you to the namesake wilderness to find new allies for the Tyrian Alliance. MeinMMO has already played the beginning and tried out most of the new features:
Among the highlight features of Janthir Wilds is the warclaw mount already known from WvW, which you can earn in adjusted form through the story of the expansion. The creature feels wonderfully mobile with its multiple jumps, can sniff out treasures, and can engage offensively in battles.
Additionally, you can expect a new housing feature called homesteads. On your property, you can showcase your characters, mounts, and earned skins, unleash your creativity in decorating, and harvest resources in fields.
Other innovations include the weapon type spear for land battles, a new 10-player raid that can also be experienced as a convergence event for 50 adventurers, as well as new rewards such as a legendary spear or backpack.
