GTA 6 is set to be released in 2025. Recently, however, rumors have circulated suggesting a delay. Employees from Rockstar explain what this is all about.
When is GTA 6 supposed to be released? There is currently no exact date for the release. In December 2023, a first trailer was released, and as of today, the release window is set for Fall 2025.
However, there are now rumors that the game may not meet this date and could be pushed to 2026. Given the significant hype surrounding GTA 6, the rumors of a potential delay understandably evoke mixed feelings among fans.
Now, some of the developers themselves have commented on the rumors and explain whether they are accurate based on current knowledge.
Good News and Bad News
What do the developers say? Gaming journalist Jason Schreier stated in a post on x.com that he was confronted with the rumors of a delay in the past few days. Subsequently, he spoke with six employees from Rockstar Games to learn more.
The good news: The employees claimed to have heard nothing of a delay. Schreier specifies that the employees he spoke with were not “informed” about any delay. It is quite possible that the upper management decided on a delay months ago, but this was not communicated internally.
Schreier himself does not believe in such behavior and therefore calls the rumors “nonsense.” Just last month, the release window of Fall 2025 was confirmed by Take-Two.
However, there is also bad news: Schreier emphasizes in his post that this reassurance may only apply to the current state of development. After all, GTA 6 is a large, ambitious game. It cannot be ruled out that there could still be delays in the future.
The current rumors have thus been debunked for now. There is only about a year left until the release – whether the developers can complete the game by then and optimize it to their satisfaction remains to be seen. Delays are not uncommon in the gaming industry – the highly anticipated MMORPG Throne and Liberty is also affected.
