According to a former developer of Rockstar Games, the company itself may not yet know when GTA 6 will be released. That will only become clear next year.
How does he come to this conclusion? Obee Vermeij was a Technical Director at Rockstar Games and witnessed the development of GTA 3, GTA San Andreas, and GTA 4. For the latter title, there was a delay: Originally, the action game was supposed to be released on October 16, 2007. But just four months before the release, the launch of GTA 4 was postponed to April 29, 2008 (via X).
That’s why he believes that Rockstar Games may not know until shortly before the release of GTA 6 whether the game can actually meet the targeted release window in autumn 2025. If the timeframe is even larger, it is difficult to make a decision to postpone.

When could a delay to 2026 become likely? According to Vermeij, Rockstar Games will not be able to decide before May 2025 whether GTA 6 will still be released in 2025.
