A new treasure hunt is apparently underway in GTA 5 Online. Dataminers have unlocked the new melee weapon in the game and are on the hunt for the Tomahawk. You can then use the Tomahawk in Red Dead Redemption 2.
New weapon, new hunt: Since winter 2017, you have been able to unlock a revolver in GTA 5 Online through a treasure hunt, which is then also available to you in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now, dataminers found a new weapon, a war axe.

Tomahawk in new GTA 5 treasure hunt for Red Dead Redemption 2
DLC brings new weapon: A few days ago, the After-Hours DLC became available in GTA 5 Online. The data from this update also included the new Tomahawk, which apparently will be unlocked through a mission series.
Not active yet: On Reddit, users Kaimeera and theinsightfulwatcher explained that they have found the weapon. However, the missions for it are not yet active in the game. They altered the data of their game session so that they could already try out the missions.
This is how the hunt works: When the mission is active, players receive an email from Maude. She will name 5 random locations on the map of GTA Online. You must travel to the locations and look for targets there. As you approach a target, acoustic signals will indicate this.
It is up to you whether to kill the targets or just wound and capture them. For live targets, there are extra rewards from Maude. Once you have dealt with the 5 targets, you will receive the sixth and final location from Maude. The place where the treasure can be found.
Use weapons to have them in Red Dead Redemption 2: Once you have found the war axe, you must perform 25 kills with it. This should unlock the Tomahawk as a weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2 for you.
