After 2 years, the fight between Lindsay Lohan and GTA 5 developer Take-Two is over.
In Grand Theft Auto, you often see people, objects, or buildings that reference the real world. Various cars in the game bear a resemblance to vehicles that can be seen in the real world. For example, there is the Citizen Vehicle, which is very close in name to the Volkswagen . Additionally, characters in the game are partly based on “real” people. Lindsay Lohan therefore filed a lawsuit against the GTA developers. Allegedly, her likeness is used in the game without her consent. Now the court has made a decision.
Court rules against Lindsay Lohan
The New York Supreme Court has ruled that Lindsay Lohan was not taken as inspiration for the design of a well-known character in GTA 5. This marks the end of the legal battle that began 2 years ago. Lohan filed a lawsuit against the GTA developers because they allegedly used her likeness and parts of her career and private life for the game without permission .
At Take-Two, they initially expected that Lohan would lose the lawsuit and referred to the story as a “PR stunt”. Nevertheless, the lawsuit made it to the New York Supreme Court, where it was accepted. The court has now ruled in the case of Lohan vs. Take-Two against Lohan, thus ending the legal dispute. The reasoning for this: The unique story, characters, dialogues, and environments, combined with the possibility for the player to choose how the story continues, make the game a fictional and satirical work. This means that the developers did not violate applicable laws and that the specific character is rightfully included in the game.
