A real-time strategy game on Steam reinterprets the time of the Northern Crusades and adds a touch of fantasy. You take on the role of powerful gods to defend your land.
What game is this about? Godsworn is a real-time strategy game on Steam, which started Early Access in March 2024. It is developed by the indie studio Thunderoak Interactive. Since its release, the game has received 92 percent very positive reviews.
At first glance, the game resembles Warcraft 3 and Age of Mythology. The setting is based during the Northern Crusades and depicts the conflict between pagan Balts and Christian missionaries with their crusaders.
Our colleagues from GameStar have already tested the game at the start of Early Access and reported back to you.
What can you expect? Godsworn is a strategy game that you can play solo, but also in online PvP and online co-op. And even though the game is based on a real historical time, the developers have given it an individual and imaginative touch.
You take on the role of pagan gods who walk the Earth at that time and make it your mission to protect your people from invaders. Each of these gods has their own abilities and play style. For example, you can take on the role of the sun goddess Saule or the moon god Meness.
Godsworn also offers you the chance to take the other side and lead your troops as Archangel Michael to defeat the pagans and convince them of your faith.
In Godsworn, it’s not just about combat
No matter which side you choose, it will not just be about charging into battle violently and aimlessly. You will also need to gather your followers and build new villages and towns for them. For this, you will let them collect resources and protect them while they pray for you, which in turn gives you more power.
In co-op mode, you must try to unite your two tribes and your followers to face the enemy together. If you fail to do so, your land might simply go down the drain right before your eyes.
