As Nexon announced, there was a problem with one of the game masters in the MMORPG MapleStory 2. He abused his position to enrich himself.
Game masters are supposed to be neutral and assist players in an MMO. However, one of the game masters in the Steam hit MapleStory 2 did not behave as he should.
A GM enriches himself in the game
What happened? In the recently released MapleStory 2, a system is in place that continuously monitors the game, including what GMs are up to. This is meant to prevent abuse.
When this system flagged an issue, it turned out that one of the GMs was exploiting several test accounts of the MMO to unfairly enrich himself. As a result, he boosted his personal account.
What did the GM do? Nexon also revealed some of the offenses that betrayed the GM:
- He reset the Dungeon run limitations for his account to level up faster.
- He created powerful items for himself.
- He cleared dungeons for friends so that they could progress faster.
Nexon addresses the situation openly
This is how Nexon responded: The developers stated that they have enforced strict measures against the person. His accounts were banned, including his personal gaming account. Additionally, some other accounts with abnormal behavior patterns were identified and banned.
Nexon claims to have found no evidence that the abuse harmed the game’s economy. Previously, developers also had to admit to a gold spammer problem.
Players cannot understand the GM: The community’s reactions to this situation show confusion about what the GM did. However, respect is shown towards Nexon as the studio had the courage to speak openly about this issue.
Zora states on MassivelyOP: “Respect for admitting that such a thing has happened. Even if it is basically bad PR.”
Bruno Brita says: “Why would someone risk their job for something like this?”
