In Pokémon GO, Giratina returns! You have the chance for a new form of the legendary Pokémon. We provide you with all the information on the return.
Which forms are catchable? Giratina has two forms. The Altered Forme and the Origin Forme. In October 2018, you could already battle the Altered Forme, but now you have the chance for both forms.
Initially, only the Altered Forme will appear, but after a few days, it will transform into the Origin Forme, and you can challenge Giratina in this form in raids.
What we know about Giratina’s forms
When do the raids start? You still have to wait a bit before you can challenge Giratina.
- Giratina in Altered Forme: From March 28 at 9 PM to April 2 at 9 PM
- Giratina in Origin Forme: From April 2 at 9 PM to April 29 at 9 PM

This is behind the timings: If you don’t yet have the Altered Forme, you don’t even have a week to complete your PokéDex. The focus is on the new Origin Forme, which will be found in raids for almost a month.
Since the raid bosses only change at 9 PM German time, we will only find the new bosses in arenas the following day. After 9 PM, no new raid will hatch.
What are the best counters? The two forms differ only in stats, but their types remain the same. You can use the same Pokémon as counters.
Best against Giratina are dragon-type Pokémon like Rayquaza or Dragonite. A counter guide for the Altered Forme can be found here, and we will provide the guide for the Origin Forme later.
What to do until the new raid boss? Currently, there is still Dialga in the arenas. You should definitely catch some good Dialga, as it is worthwhile in battles.
Luckily, Giratina cannot learn these moves:
