These 10 tips can assist beginners and pros in their adventures in Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Ghost Recon Wildlands has been available for a few days now and sends you into battle against the Santa Blanca drug cartel in Bolivia. In the large tactical shooter from Ubisoft, there are many tricks that can help you on your missions. From special operational possibilities of the thermal camera to the correct use of the mini-map, we want to present ten tips and tricks here.
Experts may already know some tricks, but this selection should at least provide every reader with a trick they don’t yet know.
1. Find special weapon upgrades
If you have a specific weapon that you want to upgrade with a piece of gear, all you need is the location for the weapon upgrade. To find that, select the corresponding weapon in GunSmith and then click on “Parts.” Mark the part you want to find and look in the upper right corner of the screen. There, you will first learn the area where you can find the weapon upgrade.
Because the areas in Ghost Recon Wildlands are large, a search without guidance can be difficult. To simplify the search, head into the desired area and look for the two Intel Caches, which are displayed as white circles with exclamation marks in the middle.
The first Intel Cache shows you the locations of additional skill points in that area. The second Intel Cache shows you all weapons and weapon upgrades in the region you are currently in. Once you have uncovered the weapons and upgrades on the map, you just need to hover your mouse over the blue symbols to find out which weapon or upgrade it is.
2. Use thermal imaging wisely
In your skills selection, you can unlock the thermal imaging skill in the category “Object“. The thermal camera displays not only human enemies but also alarm systems and anti-aircraft weapons. This is helpful when you are operating in stealth mode and trying not to trigger an alarm.
3. Find the HTI location – find and destroy helicopters
The sniper rifle named HTI is the ultimate secret weapon against enemy helicopters. If you also skill “Vehicle Destruction” in weapon skills, you will destroy opposing vehicles and aircraft particularly quickly. Helicopters and vehicles can be destroyed with just one single shot!
We have explained how to find this special weapon in a guide. Find HTI – Here is the powerful sniper
4. More damage without a silencer
If you have already been discovered by enemies and they know of your presence, you should remove the silencer from your weapon. Since you no longer need to hide, the silencer is unnecessary. Without a suppressor, you actually deal more damage with the weapon.
5. Settings for matchmaking
If you are not playing with friends and instead rely on the community of Ghost Recon Wildlands, you either browse threads on Reddit or Facebook or use the game’s matchmaking system. In this matchmaking system, you can specify who you want to play with. Since Wildlands is a communicative game, you should look for people with a microphone. Without a microphone, confusion often arises, leading to chaos that jeopardizes the mission.
Additionally, teammates should speak the same language as you to enable seamless communication. You can find the settings for this under Settings > Game > Player search filter. Select “Microphone + Language” there.
6. Use rebel support via drone
This function is particularly useful for working from cover. While you are using your drone, you can utilize rebel support. You don’t have to leave the drone view but can press the corresponding button during the flight (PC = Tab) to execute actions like a mortar strike.
7. Find an upgraded sniper scope
Playing with the standard scope on a sniper rifle is okay at first. However, if you have the chance, you should quickly take a detour and get an upgraded scope with zoom.
Where you can find special weapon upgrades has already been explained in point 1. A scope with extra zoom can be found, for example, in Koani. Further information about this scope can be found in the linked video at the end of the article.
8. You can change weapons and equipment not just at crates
One of the beginner mistakes in Ghost Recon Wildlands is assuming that weapon switching can only be performed at equipment crates. You can switch your weapons in the game at any time. Just open the weapon menu (PC = i) and change the corresponding weapons.
9. Use your mini-map effectively
Depending on the difficulty in the game, enemy camps will be displayed on your mini-map (bottom right of the game screen). Before you have uncovered the individual enemies, you will see red spots on the mini-map. These indicate the approximate locations where the enemies are located. Use your drone or binoculars to uncover each individual enemy.
After you have uncovered the enemies, they will be displayed as individual red dots. If no red spots but only dots are shown, you will know where the enemies are located and will not be surprised.
10. Shoot with the sniper from 150 meters+
You use your sniper rifle to kill an enemy more than 150 meters away? Then you can confidently detach your silencer and utilize the increased damage (point 4). Enemies will not hear the shot of your weapon when they are more than 150 meters away from you.
You can see the exact distance to enemies when you, for example, aim at them through the scope.
