The German Twitch seems to have been hit by a small wave of bans. After LetsHugo, Kilian “Tanzverbot” Heinrichs (26) is now facing a suspension. He should have known better, as even the famous DrDisrespect was banned for the same mistake.
Who has been affected? The Berliner Kilian Heinrichs, known as “Tanzverbot,” is a successful content creator on Twitch. However, he currently has to refrain from streaming, as he has been suspended for 14 days. The reason: “Infringing on privacy.”
What did Tanzverbot do? As the streamer announced on October 24, 2023, on X, formerly Twitter, he had placed his phone on a sink, presumably while visiting a public restroom. This resulted in a person being visible in the stream who was washing their hands.
Even his opponents find the ban unjustified
What are the reactions like? On X, many are reacting with disbelief to the ban. Even the streamer Kevin “Orangemorange” Bongers, who is known not to be the best friend of Tanzverbot, referred to the suspension dismissively as “Common Twitch L,” essentially a failure of Twitch.
Many users point to female streamers who they believe should be banned for their content instead of Tanzverbot. They find the ban “ridiculous” and “embarrassing.” Some even suggest that the streamer switch to the competitor platform Kick. Among them is none other than Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (via twitter.com).
However, such a switch is unlikely for Tanzverbot, as the streamer has a well-documented dislike for Kick. Thus, he seems to have no choice but to ride out the ban. Perhaps he will use the time to revive his YouTube channel, where he only sporadically uploads videos.
DrDisrespect showed how it’s done
Why does one get banned for washing hands? There is of course more to the ban. Streaming in public restrooms is generally frowned upon on Twitch to protect the privacy of individuals using these facilities.
Streamers have known this since at least the ban of famous Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm. A year before his infamous permanent ban in 2020, he attended the gaming fair E3. He streamed his visit live on Twitch, marking his first so-called IRL stream.
During this time, the streamer got a bit too deeply into his role as DrDisrespect, as he later admitted in a personal statement. He visited the restrooms several times while his team filmed. Twitch imposed a two-week ban for this, from which the Doc ultimately even benefited.
As professional streamers, Tanzverbot should have known better, even if his fans – and apparently even his critics – might see it differently and find the ban unfair.
Perhaps it was just bad luck that the 26-year-old didn’t have as loyal a colleague as former Overwatch pro Félix “xQc” Lengyel by his side, who saved him at the last moment from the mistake.
