The SF-MMO Star Trek Online lands a casting coup. LeVar Burton is onboard for two episodes. Burton played the blind engineer Geordi LaForge in the cult series “Star Trek: TNG.”
For many, “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” the series featuring Jean-Luc Picard, is a part of their identity. The series aired in the 90s and was continuously repeated. Almost everyone who is now in their 20s or 30s and interested in science fiction grew up with the new starship Enterprise and its adventures.
The characters from back then, Captain Picard, Riker, Worf, Data, or O’Brien, have burned themselves into the memory of a generation – even today, they are still associated with their roles from that time. Images like Picard’s hand to his forehead, the facepalm, have become cultural icons.
Even the current comedy series “The Big Bang Theory” celebrates its love for the actors of yesteryear or their deep enmity toward the cursed Will Wheaton.
Geordi LaForge was the ship’s engineer on the show, often working with Data. At that time, he was a lieutenant. Born blind, Geordi could see thanks to a visor, which, however, caused him constant headaches.

Now the MMORPG Star Trek Online has succeeded in signing LeVar Burton for the MMORPG. He will appear in two new story episodes. The first episode “Beyond the Nexus” will be released on September 12 for PC, and the episode for Star Trek Online on PS4 and Xbox One will follow shortly after.
Star Trek Online takes place several years after Star Trek Nemesis, the last entry in the “classic timeline.”
Geordi La Forge has since become Captain and commands his own ship. He has also gotten rid of the visor and can see.
In the September episode “Beyond The Nemesis,” players of Star Trek Online will team up with Geordi and his crew to respond to a distress call.
After the episode, Captain LaForge will return to Star Trek Online in Season 14, where he will appear in the new episode “Melting Pot.”
