An English magazine has spoken with people from Gen Z. And they proudly explain what tricks they use to cheat their bosses out of money and time. This is not the first time it has been reported that Gen Z takes a more relaxed approach to their work. Or as some explain: Why work hard when the salary is insufficient for anything?
The English-language magazine The Standard has spoken with various people from Gen Z. They proudly report and admit that they use various tricks to cheat their employers out of time.
The argument of many people from Gen Z: If you can’t afford a house with your salary and can’t reach the top of the company, then you might as well make work as pleasant as possible. An improved work-life balance at the expense of the employee. Essentially, Gen Z is largely in agreement that the boomers had it much easier in everyday life than they do.
From hangovers at work to stealing customer refunds
What does Gen Z report? The Standard asked several people what they do during their working hours and it is surprising what some come up with to avoid working. We want to share a few examples here:
- A 26-year-old reports that she secretly reads e-books in the office by pretending to handle official emails and proudly states, ‘It works wonderfully.’
- A 28-year-old explains that he has stolen refunds from his customers. Instead of handing the money over to the affected customers, he pocketed the money himself thanks to a trick: ‘Since we used prepaid cards at work that cannot be refunded, I requested the refund and Trainline etc. just sent me a check with my name on it.’
- A 25-year-old also finds it not too bad to show up at work hungover. After all, the weekend is too precious for that: ‘When I’m hungover at work, I hide in a break room and fight for my life.’
A 26-year-old says: unofficially, she starts working only at 12 o’clock and always comes up with excuses so that people don’t question her working hours: ‘Or maybe there’s an emergency, e.g. what if my washing machine breaks?’
This is not the first time Gen Z admits to tricking during working hours. In an official study, a large portion of the respondents stated that they like to sneak in a nap or leave early during working hours.
Generation Z is pushing onto the job market. According to statistics, a large portion has a university degree. But this is precisely what becomes a downfall for some young people, as there are too many applicants for too few positions. In Germany, one in five employees is overqualified: Generation Z is the best-educated generation in history: Unfortunately, they are also the most overqualified in the job market.
