The gamescom 2024 kicks off with a bang: Borderlands 4 has been announced. And the trailer was received very well.
The very first trailer of gamescom 2024 is a sensation: Borderlands 4 has been announced. The huge emblem of Lilith tears through the darkness of space. A moon breaks into pieces, comets crash onto the surface, and in a burning crater lies: The mask of a psycho. The hallmark of the Borderlands series.
Right after that the confirmation: The huge lettering announces the title Borderlands 4. So it is officially the next installment of the main series, not a spin-off like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
Also added was the release window: Borderlands 4 will be released in 2025. The wait won’t be forever.

gamescom audience is excited for a good Borderlands
Here’s how the trailer was received: “The audience went wild for Borderlands 4,” writes our editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski live from the ONL. A good sign, after the just-released movie adaptation of the pest control saga was panned by critics and did not resonate well with fans of the series.
You can get a little impression here in the review by MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes.
What ultimately is in the game remains to be seen. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, and no additional information has been released yet.
One thing is clear: Fans can hope for a game that showcases the strengths of the series. While Borderlands 3 was praised for its gameplay, it failed to resonate with many fans in terms of story and characters – a point where Borderlands 2 succeeded far better.
We are definitely excited to see what Borderlands 4 will bring. If you want to dive a little into the series: Here you can find all Borderlands games ranked.
What’s next at gamescom? Borderlands 4 opened the ONL, which in turn opened gamescom. More exciting trailers and announcements are to be expected. In the coming days, the fair in Cologne will take place, where there are plenty of booths to discover. It will be an exciting week for everyone making their way to gamescom. But also for those watching on screen, as more streams are set to happen – for example, the FYNG show from GameStar, GamePro and MeinMMO.
Webedia Gaming (GameStar, GamePro, MeinMMO) accompanies the big gaming event as the official media partner of Gamescom 2024.
