Geoff Keighley recently spoke about the fact that fans shouldn’t have too high hopes regarding brand new announcements at the Opening Night Live of the gamescom 2023. The focus would be more on games already presented. He now shows in a trailer 10 titles that are guaranteed to be part of the event.
What games are those? The video lasts about 90 seconds and repeatedly shows short clips of trailers. While some big games are included, they have all been presented at other events such as the Summer Game Fest or gamescom 2022.
For online gamers, there are three titles included:
- Crimson Desert, a multiplayer game from Pearl Abyss (Black Desert), that visually resembles Game of Thrones.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Zenless Zone Zero, a multiplayer shooter from the creators of Genshin Impact.
For those who prefer single-player and co-op titles, you can look forward to:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage
- Black Myth Wukong
- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
- Lords of the Fallen
- Sonic Superstars
- Mortal Kombat 1
When is the ONL 2023? The Opening Night Live of the gamescom starts this year on August 22. It starts at 8:00 PM German time and the event runs until 10:00 PM. You can follow the event both live on the grounds of Koelnmesse and via stream on Twitch and YouTube.
Hype for Wukong, but Disappointment Overall
How is the trailer received? In general, the video is seen positively. The structure is good and makes you want more, it is said. The highlight for many is Black Myth Wukong. This very ambitious AAA game from China was announced back in 2020, but afterwards there has been little information.
Many are now hoping for a release date at gamescom, as well as a lot of gameplay.
Otherwise, the games shown so far have rather caused disappointment. Much of it was already a topic at the Summer Game Fest 2023.
What might not be shown? Fans are hoping for further announcements, such as for Spiderman 2, Stellar Blade, or Warhammer 40k Space Marines 2. A trailer for Starfield is also expected.
Some still have high hopes for brand new announcements. However, there is a dampener from the host himself.
For Geoff Keighley already revealed in advance that the ONL would not be about the announcement of new projects, but mainly about updates for some of the biggest games in development. So, it is unlikely that there will be a real blockbuster during the livestream.
What do you think about the Opening Night Live 2023? Will you tune in or ignore the event?
