Here you will learn about the highlights at Gamescom 2016 that you should not miss.
The 17th of August is the date when Gamescom 2016 starts in Germany. Until August 21, video game fans and gamers from around the world come together to see and try out new games, participate in cosplay competitions, or just to have fun together. In our overview, you can see which games and exhibitors you can look forward to and where to find them.
Opening Hours Gamescom 2016 & Security Checks
The first day of Gamescom is for exhibitors, press, and industry visitors. For regular visitors, the fair opens one day later.
Thursday 18.08.2016 – Open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
Friday 19.08.2016 – Open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday 20.08.2016 – Open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Sunday 21.08.2016 – Open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Because this year there will be significantly stronger checks to see if visitors are carrying prohibited items, you should prepare for long waiting times. There have already been long lines at Gamescom, which will now be even longer due to the checks. The Gamescom organizers advise against bringing bags and backpacks to the venue. If you do bring bags or backpacks, don’t put too many items in them so that the checks can be carried out quickly, and you don’t hold up the crowd.
Gamescom 2016 – Our Highlights of Games and Exhibitors
So you don’t lose track at the fair, the organizers have created a hall plan for you. Here you can download the hall plan of Gamescom 2016 (10MB). If you have throttled internet or a bad connection, we have the plan here again as an image for you.
Activision – Hall 10
In Hall 10, you can expect thrilling action both in Destiny and Call of Duty. As part of Gamescom, Bungie wants to make more announcements regarding the autumn expansion “The Rise of Iron.” It will specifically focus on new features in the Crucible. But we can also be excited about what will be offered in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
This year, Blizzard has once again created a massive area for the great selection of games being presented to us this year. Guaranteed information about the latest WoW expansion “Legion” will be available. In Overwatch, rumors are swirling about a new map, and even if Blizzard does not announce a new hero, the developers will surely leave a hidden hint about “Sombra.” For Heroes of the Storm, the developers should have at least two new heroes up their sleeves because what comes after “Auriel” is still in the stars.
In Hall 5 there is a lot to see this year – namely US! Well, parts of it anyway. Our author Jürgen will be at the fair conducting interviews for various games.
Microsoft – Hall 8
Unfortunately, Microsoft will not have a press conference at Gamescom this year. Information about Halo Wars 2 and Sea of Thieves can be found in Hall 8.
Gamescom is not safe from the Pokémon hype either. Many players will be there playing Pokémon GO , but the new generation Sun and Moon will also be represented there. Information about Pokémon Sun and Moon can be found here.
Not only the VR game Star Trek: Bridge Crew but also Ghost Recon Wildlands have already caused quite a stir this year. Ubisoft is ready to provide you with more highlights, such as the new “South Park” game, in Hall 6. The Division will not be making an appearance at Gamescom.
On 2 floors, you will find everything that the fan and cosplay heart desires in Hall 5. On the lower floor, shops offer things like DVDs, comics, mangas, cosplay items/clothing, and many other things that make fans’ hearts beat faster. Since not every shop supports card payment, you should remember to have cash in your wallet.
On the upper floor, there is the Cosplay Village, live games like “Lasergame,” as well as paintball and RC drift games. At the Cosplay Village, you can expect a lot of creativity and cool costumes. A visit there is definitely worth it!
