After the console war has at least ended on one side, players on the PS5 are now enjoying new games that were previously exclusive to Xbox. There is even a trend to be observed, showing that fans, regardless of the platform, just want to have fun.
Is the console war over? If we are to believe the words of Xbox chief Phil Spencer, then yes. According to him, Xbox no longer wants to force gamers to choose between consoles but rather wants to allow them to have fun on any platform.
For this reason, Xbox is trying not to drive players away from the competition with exclusive titles; on the contrary, Xbox titles are set to appear in the PS5 shop. The plan to reach many players is working, as the latest titles from Xbox are currently dominating its competitor’s shop.
Xbox games dominate the PS5 shop
What trend can be observed? If you look at the most pre-ordered games in the PlayStation Store, you will see that Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones are leading – and this is not just the case in the German marketplace. Xbox games also dominate in the US store (via theverge.com).
According to The Verge, this applies even to the Canadian and all European marketplaces. The most popular editions are especially the premium variants. Players are demonstrating through their purchases that they enjoy games from the competition, but do not necessarily want to switch platforms for it.
Even though Xbox would make less money offering players from the competition, as Phil Spencer revealed, at least fun is the priority, and that is essentially the most important thing in gaming.
It remains exciting to see whether Xbox will offer more titles on the PS5 and whether Sony will eventually decide to release its games on Xbox as well. On Steam, one can already play many of Sony’s exclusive titles, and more are said to follow: Sony will soon release more “first-party” titles on Steam that were previously only available for PS5 – they made a lot of money in 2022
