A gamer has complained about his RTX 4090 to the manufacturer. Instead of a warranty repair for the 1,900 Euro graphics card, he received an estimate of 2,500 Euro. This would make the repair more expensive than what he paid for the card.
A defective graphics card is annoying, especially when you have just bought the hardware new. In such cases, one assumes that the manufacturer’s warranty applies and a free repair will take place. This is especially true, when manufacturers have caused a problem themselves.
A completely different experience had to be made by a gamer who had to send his Nvidia RTX 4090 to the manufacturer. He complained about the 1,900 Euro graphics card due to a broken plastic notch at the power connector.
Instead of a warranty repair, he received an estimate from the manufacturer that included a paid replacement of the card for 2,500 Euro.

What a service case is this? The gamer Mulgoki reported on Reddit about the repair process of his ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 White OC Edition. While attaching the power cable, he noticed that a piece of plastic on the connector of the graphics card was damaged.
According to his statement, he did not hear a click that would normally confirm a secure connection of the cable. Although his local dealer assured him that the RTX 4090 worked perfectly despite this flaw, he sent it to the manufacturer ASUS.
Since he had only bought the card a few weeks ago for the equivalent of 1,900 Euro according to the receipt dated April 20, 2024, Mulgoki assumed that a repair would occur under warranty. He is not aware of any fault on his part and believes that the defect existed at the time of purchase.
How did the manufacturer react? ASUS support informed the gamer that the defect was not a warranty case and that the card was supposedly no longer repairable. A similar experience was recently reported by a user, whose cooler was claimed to have prevented a repair.
Instead, he received an estimate of 2,500 Euros for a paid replacement model of the RTX 4090. When asked whether the offer is really correct in this form, it was reportedly confirmed by a supervisor of the support team.
At the same time, he was now granted a 30% discount for the replacement. This would reduce the costs to nearly 1,800 Euros, which would still correspond to almost the original purchase price of the RTX 4090. His request for an escalation of his case at ASUS went unanswered.
What other options does he have? At the moment, ASUS remains stubborn and sticks to the last statement made. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be an isolated case, as another gamer reported, whose graphics card was replaced with a cheaper model and the dealer denied any fault.
Since the entire case takes place in Canada, the legal perspective is difficult to assess. According to gtai.de, the regulatory competence for warranty law lies with the individual provinces of the country.
Following the advice of other users who commented on his post, he might try to persuade the manufacturer through other means to reconsider or resolve the issue in other ways:
- Return the card at the local seller and get a refund
- Look for another workshop that may offer a cheaper repair
- Contact the office of the CEO of ASUS support
- Go public to increase pressure on ASUS
Whether any of these options will be successful remains to be seen. The gamer says he will next contact the CEO of ASUS support, hopefully to achieve a satisfactory solution for himself.
