Many of us gamers have a genre that we play over and over again, such as online shooters. One player explained why it was good to say goodbye to his favorite genre.
What does the player say? A gamer explained in the subreddit “pcgaming” in a post that it was “the best decision of his life” to stop playing online shooters and instead play a different genre.
He had played only online shooters his whole life. 100% of his gaming time consisted of this genre – even if that was just about 4 hours a week. Now he plays single-player games instead, and that was “the best decision I have ever made,” he explains.
Enjoyment of non-repetitive gameplay
Why does he find the decision so good? At first, he missed the intense emotions that arise from playing online shooters, but then he found more and more enjoyment in the stories told by single-player games.
He also likes that the gameplay is not so repetitive. In online shooters, you mostly do the same thing over and over again. Even though each individual round is different, the weapons, maps, abilities, and gadgets mostly remain the same – especially in games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 the meta weapons are played the most.
The post gathered almost 9,000 upvotes and nearly 900 comments within a day. Many players feel similarly, but also mention other reasons why the decision to stop playing online shooters is so good.
Better quality of life and less stress
What does the community say? A frequently mentioned argument in the comments speaks of improved quality of life. Players comment that in online games they are mostly annoyed and consequently stressed. So without online shooters, life is more relaxed.
- “I think the other important point that you overlooked here is quality of life and no stress. Multiplayer shooters can be rewarding, but my God, 90% of the time it’s about being pissed off.”
- “I played only League of Legends and CS:GO for 8 years. I lived in a bubble and thought all games were like this, we just jump in and try to kill each other, and that’s it. When I started playing single-player games and enjoying the stories, I never went back to competitive online games. The stress and anger just disappeared.”
- “I stopped playing R6 Siege a few years ago. It was always tense, and it took many hours to understand the meta. Now I enjoy single-player FPS games like Doom, Darktide, and Boomer shooters.”
What does MeinMMO’s shooter nerd say about it? I mainly play PvP shooters and still enjoy them after years. I just enjoy competing with other players. Nevertheless, I take breaks for several weeks every few months and don’t play any competitive games during that time because I notice that I get annoyed much faster and more often the longer my current PvP phase lasts.
So I consciously choose to play more relaxing games regularly and lower my stress for a few weeks. However, since I am a very competitive person, I sometimes turn to single-player games where I can also compete with others without PvP: I bought a shooter from 2022 and now I can’t stop chasing records
