A gamer buys a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, but it doesn’t work. A YouTuber takes apart the graphics card and finds the culprit.
Now and then, people get very lucky when they can buy a very fast graphics card for little money. But often these cheap deals also have a catch. This is what a user found out when he bought a GeForce RTX 4090 from Nvidia from a second-hand dealer. The graphics card wouldn’t start. However, a well-known tech YouTuber was able to help him.
An insect blocks important contacts in the RTX 4090
The YouTuber NothWestRepair specializes in repairing hardware. In one of his latest videos, he faced a special challenge. We embed the English video here for you:
The owner of the graphics card mentioned that he had bought the RTX 4090 “brand new” at a second-hand shop. However, the graphics card was not functioning. At least the fans of the graphics card spun at maximum speed when connected to a system. But it did not output any image.
What was the error? The tech YouTuber began to disassemble the entire graphics card in his video. But at first glance, the graphics card was in excellent condition. The circuit board looked undamaged and the removed fans were fine too.
In a further step, NothWestRepair decided to remove the graphics chip from the board. And here the culprit appeared, as the YouTuber found a dead, winged insect.
This insect likely interfered with some contacts of the GPU and caused the graphics card to be unable to display an image.
Is the graphics card working again? Yes, the RTX 4090 is now working perfectly again. At the end of his video, the YouTuber shows how he tests the RTX 4090 in a benchmark program and the model works perfectly.
