Balatro, a special kind of poker game, found incredible popularity on Steam. Now the mobile release has also been announced with a wild trailer.
What kind of game is this? Balatro calls itself “the poker roguelike.” Basically, it is a deck-builder based on poker. However, the game is complemented by special joker cards that can completely turn the course of the game upside down.
The game is receiving extremely positive feedback on Steam: Since its release in February 2024, Balatro has gathered 41,892 reviews as of the current date (09/06/2024, 11:00 AM), of which a remarkable 97% are favorable. It is therefore considered “extremely positive.”
In the reviews, Balatro is cheekily described by fans as the ultimate time-waster, as the game mechanics have a very high addictive potential. The entry is considered quite tough, but as the game progresses, more and more combinations, synergies, and increasing enjoyment arise.
That’s why some comment that once you start with Balatro, you essentially don’t get anything else done. Indie developer LocalThunk is now embracing this in the new trailer for the game, where he almost “threatens” with the upcoming mobile release.
The game is set to be released on September 26 for iOS and Android. Here you can see the trailer:
Trailer for Balatro Mobile Excites Fans
This is the trailer: The trailer addresses sarcastically the image that Balatro has built up over time. On X.com, the developer posted the trailer with the phrase “Producivity be damned!” and also makes jokes in the video.
For example, you can see graphs of global productivity crashing down, while the clown Jimbo’s profit rises infinitely. Following this is a series of bizarre, psychedelic images that fit the vibe of the game well.
The developer also takes an ironic jab at Blizzard: “I guess you all DO have phones,” he posts with the announcement, which is evidently well received. Years ago, Diablo Immortal director Wyatt Cheng from Blizzard went into history with the much-criticized phrase “Don’t you guys have phones?”
And fans are responding positively to all this.
What do players say? In the comments of the announcement, whether on X.com or YouTube, players are celebrating the way the announcement was made. They cheekily bid farewell to their free time and announce they want to binge the game now on this platform. Even game accounts like that of Vampire Survivors report and say that now their job is in danger because they will only be hanging on their phones. On YouTube, players comment that the world would come to a standstill or lovingly refer to the trailer as “basically a threat” (via YouTube).
Let’s see if the game will be received as well on mobile as it has been on Steam – and if the world will indeed come to a standstill. Many have invested a lot of hours into the Steam version, with 1,731 reviews from players who had more than 100 hours on the clock. Between 10 and 100 hours, there are a total of 19,633 reviews.
