A new gadget from Samsung has been launched with the Galaxy Ring. However, if you do not own a Samsung phone, you will have to forgo some features. MeinMMO explains which ones these are.
Which phones are generally compatible with the Galaxy Ring?
- The Galaxy Ring must be paired with a smartphone running Android 11.0 or higher.
- A Samsung account, the “Galaxy Wearable” app, and “Samsung Health” are mandatory. You can obtain all three apps from the Google Play Store. However, some testers report that the Health app from the Google Play Store still has an old version that does not support the Ring. The current version can be obtained from the Galaxy Store.
- The Ring is currently not compatible with Apple devices, such as the iPhone.
Therefore, you can generally use the Galaxy Ring with a somewhat current phone. However, you will still have to forgo some features.
What functions are included? All basic essential functions such as step counting, sleep monitoring, heart rate measurement, and automatic workout detection work on all Android devices.

Which functions are missing? At first glance, especially AI-specific functions (Galaxy AI) that have been introduced with the new Samsung models are missing. All essential functions are included:
- Energy Score: a Galaxy AI feature that explains how health impacts your daily life. With personalized recommendations tailored to your health. The score is calculated based on four key factors: sleep, activity, heart rate during sleep
- and heart rate variability during sleep.
- Galaxy AI health tips: Wellness tips that are supposed to be tailored to your specific data and personal interests thanks to intelligent analysis by Galaxy AI.
- Find My Ring: Is a specific feature of “Samsung Find,” a feature from Samsung devices that allows you to locate your other Samsung devices. Similar to Apple’s “Find My”/”Where is?” network.
- Gesture control: Simple finger gestures that you can use with the Ring are not possible without a Galaxy phone.
If you are willing or able to do without the functions mentioned, then the Galaxy Ring could be an option for you if a smartwatch or fitness tracker seems too cumbersome.
