At the end of June, the action MMORPG TERA was shut down worldwide. Officially, it was stated that the developers would no longer release new content. However, in return, TERA Classic is now being launched in new regions. The game has been available in China and Korea for a while, but it has only attracted a few followers.
What is TERA Classic all about?
- TERA was an action MMORPG with an open world made for PC. It was praised especially for its combat system and dungeons.
- In contrast, TERA Classic is a purely mobile game that was released in 2020 for Android and iOS – but only in Korean and Chinese. However, this adapted version did not receive particularly good feedback.
- In the Google Play Store, the game received 6,720 reviews with an average rating of 2.5 stars. That’s not much compared to the titles from our list of the best mobile MMORPGs.
Now, the developer Playpark announced the release of TERA Classic for the Southeast Asia region. The game is set to be released in 2022 and will also receive an English localization. Additionally, there will be no region lock, so you can play the mobile MMORPG anywhere you want.
Playpark is known for publishing Korean games in Southeast Asia. They will also distribute the upcoming Noah’s Heart there.

How is TERA Classic structured? TERA Classic draws on the same game world as the PC MMORPG and offers similar classes – however, each class has only one playable race and one playable gender.
Otherwise, it offers much of what players disdain in mobile MMORPGs:
- The interface is cluttered and blinks everywhere
- There is auto-run and auto-fight, which significantly diminishes the good combat system of TERA
- Abilities are severely limited compared to the PC version
- The world is not as open
- It is free-to-play, although it is not very clear what can be purchased in the shop

When will TERA Classic be released? There is currently no fixed release date. You also have to prepare for potential lags when playing on the SEA version, as you are connecting to Asia.
