Today, on Tuesday, December 11th, players are asked to download a new patch on all platforms (PC/Mac, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, iOS, Android) in the morning. The Fortnite servers will be offline for maintenance. The new game version 7.01 will likely bring swords to Fortnite: Battle Royale!
The first update of Season 7: The new Season 7 is already a few days old. Players are enjoying airplanes and new skins in the new winter landscape of Fortnite: Battle Royale. And it looks like fans will get a new toy today!
When will the new update arrive? According to Epic, the new version 7.01 will roll out at 11:00 AM German time. As soon as the patch is available, you will need to download and install it; otherwise, you will not be able to start any matches. You can find the patch notes for update 7.01 here in the meantime.
Fortnite servers are surprisingly offline for maintenance
Will there be downtime? Based on the wording of the announcements, there will be no server maintenance. You will only need to download the update. After that, you should be able to continue playing.
Update 11:05 AM: The plans seem to have changed. The servers are now offline for maintenance. Fortnite is down and cannot be played at the moment.
When will Fortnite be back online? We do not know at the moment. We expect it to be a small update and that Fortnite should be up and running again around 12:00 PM our time.
What’s in the new patch 7.01
What does update 7.01 bring for Battle Royale players? Epic accompanied the announcement of the new update with the words “Stay sharp”. The probability is very high that players will get to try swords for the first time today.
The exciting question will be how this is supposed to work. Presumably, the sword will be the central element of a new game mode.
What does update 7.01 bring for PvE players? Nothing is currently known for the “Save the World” mode. A corresponding announcement on Fortnite’s own subreddit was accompanied by Epic with the words “Take aim”. We are definitely curious about what PvE players can expect.
