In Fortnite, today on August 7th, the servers on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS are going offline for maintenance and Fortnite is down. A new update is on the way, in the meantime a disturbance is displayed. Patch 5.2 brings a new weapon, the double-barreled shotgun. When will the servers go online again and what is included in the update?
What is happening today? A larger patch for Fortnite is announced for today. The servers will be down for a while. We will look into what the patch likely brings and when Fortnite will be functional again.
In advance of the patch, starting at 9 AM, the birthday event will come to an end. There will be no more birthday cakes and the other quests are also over.
Servers are offline for maintenance, no disturbance
When does the server downtime start? Around 9:30 AM our time, matchmaking in Fortnite will be disabled, meaning player search.
At 10 AM our time, the servers will be offline. That is 4 AM ET or 8 AM GMT.
When will the Fortnite servers be back online? Officially there is no time. If everything goes normally, it should be back up between 11:30 AM and 12 PM.
Update: The Fortnite servers are back online since about 12 PM. The maintenance is over.
What does the update bring today?
This is officially known: We only know from Epic that a new weapon is coming to Fortnite Battle Royale. It is the double-barreled shotgun. It will be available in epic and legendary. The shotgun can be fired twice quickly in succession.
This brings back the controversial “double-pump”. For a long time, it was the most effective tactic to play with multiple shotguns and switch to the next one after each shot to reduce firing time.
We have no idea what will come to “Save the World” this week. The roadmap has already expired.
Speedboost item might come to Fortnite
What else could come? This time it is an exceptional situation, as patch 5.2 is already available on Android, and therefore data miners have already been involved (via xda). However, we do not know what is “live” now and what will only be there next week.
- About some skins have already been found that revolve around the “Durrburger”. There should also be 80s clothes and fitness outfits.
- Particularly interesting are new, consumable items. Durr-Burgers restore health points, the drink serves as a shield, and there are supposed to be fries. They increase the running speed.
- As a weapon, besides the shotgun, the heavy sniper rifle that can shoot through walls has been found in the code, along with a “rail-gun.” This is a futuristic weapon.
- In new limited-time modes, 20 have been discovered at once. Among them is a “Wild West” mode (without the modern stuff) and a mode called “Taxes” that greatly restricts resources.
However, it is hard to say exactly what will be in the update. It is one thing what is in the code, and another what actually becomes active. Normally, only one weapon and a maximum of two new modes come per week. However, the data miners found 3 weapons and 20 game modes.
Update: Data miners have now extracted which skins will come to Fortnite in the coming days and how they will look in the game.
