Fortnite: Battle Royale has brought the teased sword into the regular game. Now there is a kind of Mini-Thanos for everyone, whether you want it or not.
What’s the deal with the sword? The sword “Infinity Blade” was already announced in a small teaser. Now it has been in the game since Update 7.01 – and in all versions of Fortnite, not in a separate game mode! No matter which mode you play, the sword is always there. This changes a lot!
The Pros and Cons of the Sword
What can the sword do? Whoever picks up the sword will instantly heal to 200 health and shields. So, he is twice as strong as a fully upgraded regular player. Additionally, the sword bearer moves at 130 percent speed and regenerates 1 health or shield per second.
If he scores kills, he immediately gets back 50 health or shield. Many wounded opponents can quickly bring the sword bearer back to full strength.
With the sword, you can instantly break buildings, collect their resource value, and deal 75 points of damage to players. With the alternative fire mode, you make a leap forward, destroy everything in your jump direction, and deal 25 points of damage upon landing in the area.
The sword bearer can still collect resources and even build!
Does the sword also have disadvantages? When you pick up the blade, you drop all other items. Additionally, you are restricted to melee attacks. Snipers and concentrated fire from a distance can thus cause problems for you.
Despite your increased speed, an opponent at a distance may inflict enough damage on you before you reach him. It gets really bad if you are low on hitpoints and cannot find easy prey. Then it takes a long time to regenerate. Healing items cannot be taken or used by the sword bearer.
The Sword is a Mini Thanos
Where can I find the sword? The Infinity Blade can always be found at the new location Polar Peak in the southwest. It is a high mountain, with the fortress of the Ice King towering out like a tower peak. In front of the tower is a snowy courtyard. There, the blade is stuck every time at the beginning of the game like Excalibur in a stone.
How does the sword affect gameplay? The sword is extremely powerful at close range and turns you into a sort of “Mini Thanos”. Thanos from the movie Infinity War was temporarily brought into the game when you found his glove. However, the Thanos mode was a limited-time mode that you could optionally play.
The sword, on the other hand, can be found in every regular game, and those who don’t want the blade still have to endure it. Additionally, the sword bearer is still more dangerous than Thanos in some respects. Although he has no ranged attacks, he is super fast and not huge, like the purple Titan was back then.
Thanos could still be hit easily from a huge distance, but the sword-wielding lunatic is a tough target!
Polar Peaks is the new Tilted Towers
This is how it currently looks in Polar Peaks: Since the Infinity Blade is highly sought after, masses of players gather at the start of the game at the location Polar Peak. There, all hell breaks loose, and players hit each other with pickaxes to get the blade.
However, this takes some time, and many a wannabe sword bearer will be shot immediately by a nasty player who has gathered a weapon from the surrounding buildings during the carnage.
The few remaining players in the vicinity then become easy prey for the fully maximized sword master, but sometimes the blade switches owners multiple times if the supposedly easy prey proves to be stronger than expected.
This is what players think: Many players are somewhat irritated that Epic did not put the blade in a separate game mode. Additionally, some complain that you now see huge crowds of players flocking to Polar Peak every time at the start of the game. Furthermore, the blade is completely useless for pro players in tournaments, as professionals deal much more damage with regular weapons and do not take the risk of going for a unique super weapon.
Other players, on the other hand, think the idea is awesome and look forward to the guaranteed slaughter around the sword. Additionally, Fortnite is not just for pro gamers, and if you don’t want the sword, you don’t have to go for it. The sword bearer has enough disadvantages that balance out his strength.
What do you think about the sword? A cool idea to liven up the game, or has Fortnite finally lost it?
