In Fortnite, the most expensive skin in the game is the iKONIK skin. It’s actually tied to a ridiculously expensive smartphone from Samsung. However, due to a glitch, Mobile players could snag it for free. Epic reacted coolly.
This is the most expensive skin in Fortnite: The iKONIK skin likely represents the Korean pop star Jung Changwoo. He is a member of the band iKON.
Originally, the skin in Fortnite was supposed to only be obtainable by pre-ordering a very expensive smartphone from Samsung: The new flagship smartphone from Samsung, the S10+, costs over €1200.
Previously, Samsung had made such a deal with Epic: it was about the Galaxy skin for Fortnite.
Why did some get it for free? Due to a glitch, the iKONIK skin was displayed for $0 in the Fortnite Cash Shop, but only for Mobile players using a Samsung device.

A player jumped in and got the skin for free.
He then created a thread in the Mobile subreddit about Fortnite, where he pointed out to Epic: “Here, your €1200 skin is currently free in the shop.”
When an Epic employee responded and said it was a mistake, players expected that Epic would simply take the skin back from the lucky player.
This is how Epic reacted: In the thread on the subreddit where the topic was discussed, a community coordinator from Epic spoke up. He said:
“There was a mistake in how the outfit pack was distributed through the mobile launcher, causing the pack to be displayed for free for a limited time.
If you got the skin, you can keep it.”
How many got it for free? The skin was:
- only visible to mobile users
- they also needed to have a Samsung device
- and had to randomly check the cash shop within a very short time frame
Players talk about “a few minutes” before the error was noticed and the iKONIK skin disappeared from the cash shop.
The number of players who received the €1200 skin for free is likely very small. Maybe it’s just the creator of the reddit posting.
That’s why Epic seems to be reacting so cool; if thousands had really claimed the skin, the outcome might have been different.
This is how players react: The best comment from a user is: “This is nonsense! Take the skin away from him or give us another chance at it. I wish I had known about this beforehand; I would have grabbed it too.”
