In Fortnite: Battle Royale, with the start of Season 5, a new mechanic was introduced that heals players infinitely. Now players are using this to achieve easy victories, as shown in a reddit clip.
What is this mechanic? The trailer for Season 5 already showed that the Zero Point is back on the map. But instead of a “Rift” that throws players into the air and lets them fly further, you can now heal yourself when walking through the Zero Point.
This mechanic can be used repeatedly within a match to fully restore health points. You don’t even have to wait in between to go through again, as there is no time limit.
Healing is exploited by players
This is how some players are now using the mechanic: Normally, this would be a nice way to restore health points after a battle or to quickly recharge when having to run through the damaging storm.
But players have now found a way to simply win, even when the storm has spread over the entire island. A player on reddit shows how he won with his duo partner using the mechanic:
This is what the players did: They built a “fortress” around the Zero Point so they could simply walk through. The storm had already spread widely across the island, causing significant damage to players. But before they could be eliminated by the damage, they healed themselves with the Zero Point.
They kept doing this until the last opponents could no longer withstand the storm and were eliminated. This meant an easy victory for the duo without having to prove themselves against enemies. Other players had to give up without any chance.
Is this intended or will a fix come soon?
Why this exploit is a serious problem: In Fortnite Battle Royale, everything revolves around achieving an epic victory. The goal is to be the last team or player standing on the battlefield.
However, the new healing mechanic is actually part of the game and is likely intended for players to use. But if players consciously use it to avoid actual death by the storm, their opponents have no chance to counter it. This creates an unfair advantage and leads to victory.
What do players think about it? There are mixed opinions about this situation in the reddit post. Some are just making insider jokes and asking which Fortnite YouTuber will make a video about it. Others want to benefit from the exploit as well. But there are also suggestions on how it could be fixed:
- “Delete the video before they (Epic Games) remove the mechanic!”
- “Thanks for sharing. Now everyone will use this trick.”
- “I mean this can be easily fixed. Make it so that you only get shields instead of removing it completely from the game.”
Is a fix coming now? It is still unclear whether Epic will bring a fix for this. So far, no bug has been noted on the Fortnite Trello, and Fortnite has not mentioned anything about it on Twitter. So it remains to be seen how this will develop.
The return of the Zero Point not only provides healing but also brought a bit of chaos to the Fortnite map. The Crystal Desert emerged from the explosion, and other locations have appeared as well. There were some map changes in Season 5 that players can discover.
