In Fortnite the servers will be down today, on October 18th, across all platforms (PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Android). The maintenance work will be used to upload the new update 22.20 to the servers. Preliminary patch notes for the update are available here.
What is happening today in Fortnite? This time a patch is expected. For this, the servers will be taken offline for maintenance and the new patch 22.20.
This patch finally brings the long-awaited “Fortnitemares”, the Halloween update to Fortnite. So if you have been waiting for the spooky things of the colorful battle royale, now is the time.
Patch Notes for Patch 22.20 on October 18
Fortnitemares has started: Like every year, a Halloween event starts in Fortnite. This time, Fortnitemares 2022 is also starting and you can test free items, monsters, and many spooky and new modes until November 2.

New weapon: In Fortnite, you will be able to find a new weapon called the “Howler Claws”. This melee weapon has many cool effects that you can use in combat.
By howling with the claws, you can spot enemies in the vicinity and even see through walls. In combat, you can then execute a four-claw combo that makes you a deadly beast.
To acquire the weapon, you must perform a ritual at an altar of your choice on the map. These altars are scattered all over the map.
Additionally, you will also find candies on the ground and the famous pumpkin rocket launcher during your matches.
New Horde mode without building: In Fortnite, you will have the opportunity to participate in a new mode called the Zero Build Horde mode. This mode lets you fight against many monsters, earn points, and have fun with friends. If you complete the quests for this mode, you will receive a secret reward.
Free items in Fortnitemares: You also get the chance to earn cool free items again. These include a chrome glider, a pickaxe, and a back bling.
You have until November 1st to earn these items before Fortnite takes the opportunity away from you. So don’t miss your quests.

Competitive changes:
- With the exception of map changes, the Fortnitemares changes are not included in competitive playlists.
Bug fixes:
- Revive cards no longer sink if the player was eliminated in water.
- Players can once again track the progress of their EvoChrome weapon upgrades in competitive playlists.
- Moving the right stick on the controller will no longer unintentionally navigate through menus.
- A problem on mobile devices was fixed where water appeared to be floating above the ground.
Fortnite: Server Down – When and how long is it offline?
This is the downtime in the morning: The servers are expected to be shut down by Epic Games at 10:00 AM German time to install update 22.20. Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior, so you won’t be able to search for new matches from 9:30 AM.
When can you play again? The servers are usually offline for several hours during such maintenance work, and playing is then not possible. Downtime is expected to last between 30 minutes and 2 hours. This has been shown by the updates from previous weeks.
During such maintenance, there can also always be technical problems, bugs, and delays. If such complications occur, we will report on it here immediately.
When will the patch notes come? Epic Games usually releases a short list of patch notes on their site after the update. If that happens, we will list them here briefly and clearly.
What new content does update 22.20 bring?
What’s new for the Battle Royale mode? We still don’t know anything concrete yet, but leakers have often proven to be reliable sources with their predictions. According to Hypex, you can expect:
