Fortnite will receive the update 5.4 this week with the new game mode “Getaway” and other goodies. However, today, on the classic patch day, the servers have remained quiet so far. When will the highly anticipated update arrive?
Where is the patch? New Fortnite updates usually appear on Tuesday of each week. But unfortunately it seems that nothing will happen today, September 4th. Experience shows that Epic would have long ago posted relevant news on Twitter or Reddit if the patch were indeed coming today.
Update 5.4 and patch notes are taking their time
When will the new update finally come? Patch 5.4 will be quite a large update. So it’s somewhat understandable that Epic prefers to take a bit more time. This has often been the case in the past, which is why important updates have sometimes come later in the week.
Patch on Wednesday or Thursday? Usually, updates then come throughout Wednesday. However, there have been instances where a patch did not arrive until Thursday. That would be quite late and would clash with the new challenges of week 9. Therefore, Wednesday is more likely as the patch day.
Update: Epic recently posted a short video of the High-Stakes event on Twitter. According to this, it should be released tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Patch 5.4 should also go live then.
What’s in update 5.4
The wait should definitely be worth it. Because update 5.4 brings, among other things, a slew of features that have never been in the game before:
- New game mode “Getaway”: In this new mode, you need to find, crack a safe, and retrieve a llama sculpture as a team of four. You then need to defend it against all other players and carry it safely to a getaway vehicle.
- New weapon “Grappler”: This grapple gun allows you to zip across the map quickly. Strongholds can also be easily taken this way.
- New storm behavior in the final phase: Previously, the storm left your buildings alone. This will change with 5.4, as the final storm zone at the edge will also devastate buildings. This should lead to more action in the endgame.
- Challenges for new outfits: For the event, there will be special gangster outfits in the shop. You can upgrade these with your own Wildcard challenges.
Additionally, there should be plenty of bug fixes and minor updates.
