A few days ago, it became known that Intel’s CPU is vulnerable to attacks. A first security update was released to address the “Meltdown” issue. This leads to significant performance losses, which also affect Fortnite players.
The news caused a major stir: Intel chips are vulnerable to attacks. As Google has now confirmed, AMD and ARM CPUs are also affected. Researchers have described two attack scenarios, Meltdown and Spectre, which exploit the leak.
Fortnite is having issues: lags and login problems
A hastily assembled update was supposed to close the gap, but at the same time brought performance losses that are to be gradually resolved. Initially, losses of up to 5% were expected. At least Epic has it significantly worse.
After the first patches, players quickly noticed that there are problems in Fortnite. Lags and long queues caused frustration. Now Epic has commented extensively on the issue – and the resolution will take several days. Epic speaks of the problem “during the next week.”
Epic needs to run cloud updates
To get a handle on the performance issues, Epic must carry out extensive updates on its cloud services. Whether the problem is limited to PC or if consoles are also affected, Epic has not elaborated on. However, it is known that both the regular PvE mode and the Battle Royale mode are affected.
