In Fortnite, the most feared weapon in the history of the game is returning soon: A new patch will bring back the Guided Missile. However, after it once disrupted the balance, the Guided Missile will return in a completely different form.
What was the Guided Missile? The “Guided Missile” was extremely dangerous. Players could fire it, steer it, and blow up opponents from a safe distance, racking up kills.
Some fans complained: “This weapon ruins Fortnite.” It was simply too powerful when pros built walls, steered it from a safe distance, and detonated it.
Players had concerns even beforehand, which turned out to be true:
Guided Missile: Finger of Death, but also a Source of Joy
Where was the problem? Matches no longer ended with a man-to-man duel but with someone sitting in a bunker launching rockets almost endlessly to find their poor victim.
But the weapon was also a source of joy. Players could hop on the rocket and ride it, leading to crazy moments.
Quickly taken away: The Guided Missile was removed again after just a few days. The weapon came to Fortnite at the end of March and was gone by mid-April. The missile was only in the game for one patch: The Guided Missile appeared with Patch 3.4 and was removed with Patch 3.5.
What does Epic say about it?
“When the Guided Missile first came to Fortnite: Battle Royale, we loved the crazy moments and fun it brought us. But after the release, we had the same concerns as the Fortnite community. It’s hard to play against a near-endless bombardment of highly effective explosives.”
New Missile More for Scouting
How will the Guided Missile be now? The Guided Missile will be significantly weakened:
- Speed,
- maneuverability,
- damage
- and damage range will be reduced.
- The ammo size will be lowered to 12.
How will the new Guided Missile be? The new missile is intended to be more for exploring rather than being the “Finger of Death.”
When will the Guided Missile return? Epic hasn’t said yet. It could happen as early as next week, but players might have to wait much longer.
Recently, Epic has made some balance changes, most recently weakening submachine guns overnight:
