Today, on August 27, Epic Games has released the patch notes for the Fortnite update 10.20. We show you what is new, including the new shield bubble item and which 3 items are going into the vault.
What’s included in update 10.20? The update brings a number of new features. Here’s a brief summary:
- The shield bubble item is now in the game
- A new location, Pandora, appears in the desert, bringing you into the world of Borderlands
- Changes to the B.I.E.S.T.
Shield Bubble comes to Fortnite – 3 items are going out
This is the shield bubble: This item acts as a type of shield. You can throw the shield bubble: No explosions or projectiles can pass through the bubble. The same applies if you shoot from inside the bubble to the outside.
The shield bubble lasts for 30 seconds, unless the sender of the bubble is destroyed beforehand.
The item can be found on the ground, in chests, supply drops, and in vending machines. It is considered a rare item.
Which items are going out? 3 items are being vaulted by Epic. They include:
- Storm Turn
- Drum Gun
- Storm Scout Sniper Rifle
Fortnite gets a new location with Pandora
Where is the city? You will find it in the desert area, very close to Paradise Palms. A new rift zone has emerged there, bringing the location Pandora.
What is special about Pandora? Everything here resembles Borderlands. Fortnite cooperates with the developers of Borderlands, as the 3rd part is soon to be released.
If you enter this rift zone, the graphics change to the classic Borderlands style.
Additionally, you can refill your health easily in Pandora. If you are not in combat for 4 seconds, your shield will automatically refill.

Changes to the Mech – What’s new
A few days ago, the combat robot in Fortnite got an overhaul. Now these changes are also active in arena and tournament game modes.
The spawn rates of the Mech have been significantly adjusted there. They vary depending on the storm phase. Now there is always the same probability that 1-6 Mechs will spawn:
- Storm Phase 1: 14.3% chance that 1-6 Mechs spawn
- Storm Phase 2: 16.7% chance that 1-5 Mechs spawn
- Storm Phase 3: 25% chance that 1-4 Mechs spawn
- Storm Phase 4: 33% chance that 1-3 Mechs spawn
With update 10.20, the explosion radius of the Mech’s rockets has been reset to the initial radius. In the hotfix, this was first reduced by 42%, but Epic apparently did not like this.
What is also changing: A small further revision has been made to the Mech. The icon display of the Mech will be visible to all players on the map. You will then be able to observe exactly where a Mech is moving on the map.
The B.I.E.S.T. now has fewer bugs. The Mech is now destroyed by direct hits from the Scrap Breaker. Additionally, the Mech can no longer use hoverboards, which previously worked incorrectly.
Bug Fixes in Update 10.20
The new update also includes several bug fixes. Here are the highlights:
- The Scrap Breaker is active again after various bugs surrounding it were fixed
- Shockwaves are working correctly again with the horde
- Shield potions give back 50 shield again when the shield was previously at 49
- The bug that allowed healing items to be used quicker has been fixed
- Chests now open when you destroy the object the chest is resting on
New in Creative Mode – Build your own Borderlands
This is what you can now build: Buildings from Pandora, the world of Borderlands, are available. You can create cities entirely in the Borderlands style.
Additionally, there is now a barren island inspired by the Pandora desert area.
What’s new in the PvE mode “Save the World”
A new quest line: Here, you must help Ray, Dennis, and Lars complete these quests. It’s about past and future.
New pickaxes: There are now 6 new pickaxes waiting for you in Save the World. From a sausage to a flamingo, all themes are represented.
New trap: In addition to the cosmetic items, there is also a new trap. With the Sound Barrier trap, you can make your opponents dance.
